What are used 4.56 thirds worth?

I may be buying some front and rear 3rds from stock 1st gen 4runner with 4.56 gearing. the guy says that they are in great condition. How much would you guys say these are worth or how cheap woudl you say i could get them? i emailed him back asking his price so i dont know what he is asking for them yet. i will let you guys know though when he tells me. im buying my first set of 3rds and dont want to pay too much for them.

Thanks in advance.

My rear V6 third was $450 from the wrecking yard before anything was done to it, and the front was $250 (from a different place).

Just depends on how bad he wants to get rid of em.. I've seen a set go for 250.00 front and rear with cv shafts

yeh iasked him to give me a price including shipping to my zip code.

i think the guy might ask me to give him a price. i talked to my dad about it and he recomended about half the price of what the gears are new. so if they were 150 + 150 = 300
then a price i might ask for is 150? i dont know though that might be a little cheap.

New thirds are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than $300. Each. Something like $900+. $150 might get you a new regear kit, but not new thirds.

$450 is pretty steep for a used factory 3rd member. i paid $250 for a factory 4.88 3rd -- i'm sure i could've got one cheaper if i did some searching.

wow i was going to say 450 does seem like a lot for USED.

since you paid 250 kyle for 4.88 are 4.56 generally cheaper or more expensive than 4.88.

i mean even that seems a little steep because dont entire axels go for around 200-300 dollars. i mean how can just the 3rd be more than that?

because he is getting TWO 3rds front and rear, you are talking for a single axle. The guys I know round here pull the thirds and junk the housings - when you buy an axle IMO you are payingn for the 3rd and the housing is the happy meal prize.

I would hit him at $450 shipped.

For your information, I had searched for two months trying to locate a 4.56 third. I didn't care if it was V6 or 4 cylinder. At the time I was putting this together, there was a place called Fitz in Woodinville. I called them and was told they had what I was looking for, only to drive there and be told by someone else that they didn't. That was something like 50 miles each way. I'd call all the wrecking yards that I could think of, from Nix99 in Lynnwood to Meredian Auto Wrecking in South Puyallup. They just weren't to be had. It wasn't like I had a lot of choice. I had the front done, and couldn't leave it with the rear at stock ratio. What's done is done.

yeh i dont like junkyards that much anyway. well i have only been to one really and it was a bad experience. it was in oceanside CA (Gallants) and i just got a little plastic panel piece which they charged 25 bucks for and then like $15 for the battery hold down thing.

a few days later my friend went there for a powersteering box. i think they wanted like 250 for it along with his old one.

they had terrible prices and terrible attitudes and friendlyness. ive heard thats how they all are. i dunno
