Had to revive this thread after the last couple of days. I thought I was going to have to break down and buy some steel for a fund-raising project, but I managed to score much more than I needed last night - that should save the Patrol a few bucks. Recently I've also picked up a set of steel shelves for a friend who just bought her first home; a 10" power miter saw (needs some work, but it turns); a half-dozen blades for my new saw; 2 electric motors for my home-built welder project; discharged fire extinguisher for a future CO2 tank; a Master Mechanic 2-drawer tool chest (needs new latch); lots of misc. steel for testing my home-built welder (someday) and for building my custom bike rack; and a spare propane tank (1/2 full!). I'm sure I could have gotten more a few weeks ago, but I was too busy to scrounge around during move-out week for all of the college kids.

Free: ISR mod, speed vision digital stopwatch, Speedvision AM/FM radio walkman, Diff breather mod (rear).

The speedvision stuff was free at a car show, and the 4Runner stuff was laying around my garage (in sorted drawers of course )

Back in the spring of 2000 i replied to an ad from ARB of Seattle.
They needed a 3rd generation 4runner to try out the Toyota Prado bumper.
So i dropped off my '97 4runner and the next day i went to check it out.
It fit pretty good. Tim from ARB shook my hand and said thanks. The bumper was mine for free

Hm.. lets see here
I got a 633mhz computer from family member, 10$ for a K&N FIPK kit for my truck that I'm gonna take out soon because of water being too easy to get to it... probably sell it on ebay, 2 small ammo boxes and one big one, free 2 years of maxim and stuff because of the free stuff forum here.

Hey Todd-

Do you still own that vehicle? I think I saw you a couple weeks ago driving on 15th in Seattle, you were heading towards Ballard and I was drooling over that bumper, since I hardly ever see anything other than stock 4-runners around? Sweet find!

I've been blessed with a scrounging gene and have scammed quite a bit of cool free stuff.

I got a 91 Geo Tracker 4wd Convertable for almost free - cost me $20 from a good friend who was tired of the thing. It drove fine. I had to rebuild the manual hubs (they were frozen engaged), replace some front axle seals (i wonder why?), replace the shocks and struts, and eventually did a top-end job on it. I loved that little thing and beat the piss out of it. I sold it last spring for $1800. Of course I split the profits with my bud who gave me the thing.

Got a nice piano for free. I just had to haul it to my house.

I got a cool motorycle for free. A 1963 Honda CA95. I plan to restore it eventually. For now I ride it around about once per year.

Stuff is good . . .

I got a free laptop from my buddy who didn't want it any more. It's only a P166 with 80MB of RAM and a 10GB HDD, but it's perfect for engine tuning/monitoring. That's all I use it for.

And... *Puts on Flame Retardant Suit*

I got a 1st Gen TRD S/C that needs a new Keyway and Pulley. It's not a complete kit either as it needs hoses, a belt, idler pulley, etc. But other than that it's perfect. It was taken off a truck due to a warranty claim since the keyway wore out and the nose drive pulley was rattling. Jay gave it to me.

It's been sitting in my storage shed for about 3 months now. I don't have the money to invest in installing it because there are some other things that need to go on the truck first, like headers. I wouldn't dream of installing the thing without headers and the fuel upgrades. So, there's at least $1000 or more that will need to be spent to install this "free" S/C.

Don't hate me because I'm beyooteefull.

I always get free advice

I worked for a company that had a huge dumpster, used to always throw away stuff. I picked up 3 huge wooden desks, about 4 4'X6' dry erase boards that I gave to my Mom's school.

I found me this cool Toyota emblem, it popped right off this guy's truck (with the help of a screwdriver, and it only put a few scratches in his paint). I gold plated it, put this bling bling chain on it, and now I wear it around my neck!
