I confirmed that my single-cat 2000 4Runner is originally an Arizona vehicle that was brought into California. Apparently my truck will be held to federal emission standards and not the more stringent California standards when it comes time for a smog check.

I didn't know the 99+ CA trucks and *all* 2001+ 4Runners were dual cat. Didn't the 2001+ 4runners also get a nicer tubular-style exhaust manifold? Pics?
