I'm guessing it's probably your rear differential breather. That's the only thing that I know of that sits on top of the rear differential.

The ABS sensor comes off the top of some differentials. I don't know what kind of line the ABS uses, having never seen the actual line before. I just know that there is a hole for the ABS sensor on the top of my V-6 differential that I had to close off.

That is the Rear ABS sensor.
I have a '91 4runner, and have removed the rear diff before.
On mine, it was impossible to remove from the third member,
and the plug was impossible to access, so I cut the cord, then spliced the wires back together. So far, no problems with the ABS.
