Unless you are going to sell the truck right away, stick with the better brands, like US gear, Precision gear, or factory Toyota gears. You may be able to get the 4.88 Toyota gears from a salvage yard or someone on-line.

The worst gears are Genuine. I found out this morning that most of the Yukon gears are made over-seas, so IF that means China, I'd stay way from them too.

I have precision gear and Motive gears in mine.
Don't know much about the motive gears ( thats all that was offered at the time I ordered the gears from Downey. That was in 92!) But they have held up well.

Not only is the brand of gear somewhat important but the installer is just as important. The best gears in the world will blow up if they aren't installed properly.

There's a huge thread on TTORA board about Yukon and Value and how when some people ordered Yukon gears for their front diffs they received a Value box.

Thread is here: http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...ead.php?t=1984

Specific post from Yukon rep here: http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...9&postcount=71

From what I was told, Yukon, Motive and Precision gets their gears from the same manufacturer. I have Motive gears and have had no problems with them. I recently took my front diff apart to replace a damaged O-ring in my ARB air locker and the gears looked great. It really depends on the installer, on how long they'll last.

Do you know where to buy Richmond Gears online?

I haven't found any salvage 4.100 R&P here, so I must change my front gears, but US ones are different to european ones (4.10 vs 4.11) so I'll upgrade my rear ones too to 4.56.

Are 4cyl and V6 Gears the same?

Thanks,

David

No, they are not the same. 4 cyl gears can be used in a V6 diff by shiming but V6 gears can't be used in a 4 cyl diff.

Who are you planning on using to install the gears? Maybe they can help you find some. Some installers prefer one brand of gears over others.
