What is the benefit to have higher torque on SUV?

Greetings:

Please forgive my ignorance, I am wondering what is the real life benefit of a high torque (between 4X4 V6 & 4X4 V8 4Runner for instance). Will the towing capacity or the acceleration increase with the higher torque?

Advance thanks for your insight thoughts.

more torque means easier to tow HP gives you speed but torque gives ya lots of low end power needed for towing.

Another way to look at it is this:

You're going uphill and you have the v8 - you'll be able to go up pretty fast. if you have the v6 you'll struggle more because you need the torque to help ya move up that hill.

horsepower is but torque per unit time or lbf x ft per sec

Translation:

Horsepower IS torque just over a period of time.
