weird 3.4 engine rattle noise

Hey guys, just looking for alittle help, my 3.4 97 4runner makes the weird almost like a rattling sound durring idle, its had to explain but its not a rattle, it just kinda has that sounds, it seems to be towards the rear driveside of the engine, i only notice it durring idle, it maybe doing it all the time, just the engine noise overpowers it, not sure about that, its also not constant, it does it with the engine, maybe everyother second or so, if i could get a sound bite of it, i would but have no way to do that, anyway its been doing it for awhile, in all weather and temps, and doesnt seem to effect anything, other then being a noise i cant stand anymore, any help, would be great, also if someone has any idea i will try to discribe it more, thanks

Does it sound like engine pinging?
Does it have a check engine light showing?

Do you perform regular maintenance on this vehicle? (ie standard tuneup stuff, plugs, filters, etc)

yea all regular maintenance is done and always was, i had the truck since new, its not a pinging, its really hard to explain, its more of a rattle, but sounds like its near the rear of the motors leftside head, like i said i runs good, no problems or check engine light, it does have 165k on it and its been used hard, and i plan on keeping it til it rusts apart, thanks for they reply

I think mine might be making the same noise - reminds me of the sound of a big diesel or something. I have not had any issues either - oil looks good - compression is good etc...
