weber 32/36

This is my first carb. toyota that i have owned. Its a 87 dodge ram d50 with a 1980 20r. I replaced the stock carb with a weber 32/36 that a friend at work gave me for free but the problem is the carb is not getting any fuel to the carb. It has a electric fuel pump that is pumping up to the carb but none is getting in. The guy that gave it to me said it probably needs to be cleaned out. How diffcult is this and what are the steps involved. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Yotatech

allow me to summarize;

you own a 1987 Dodge D50 with a 1980 Toyota 20R engine
you have swapped the OEM carb for a Weber 32/36
... the Weber carb isn't get any gas in it.

first thing I would do is to throw away the bad parts .. this would include everything except the weber and Toyota engine. Just kidding.

i think getting rid of the d50 motor was the smart idea. those things are JUNK...i'm pretty sure the mitsu 2.6 had less horsepower than a 20R!

Yeah the 20r runs pretty good when it runs. The stock carb was junk to begin with but the weber i got for free isnt any better. Spend this morning cleaning the thing out and still isnt firing up. Anybody have any ideas?

do you think it could be a clogged jet? might have to get it looked at by a shop

Ok i got the truck running (somewhat) but its starts spitting and popping if you rev it up but here is the real kicker even with the motor hot if you close the choke so it is barely open the motor will rev real strong until the secondary kicks in and it dies down a little. This thing is so aggrevating that about to trade it in on a nissan or mazda. (just joking I'm not that crazy.)

That's indication that its running too rich. Adjust your lean / rich screw on the carb. Unscrew it until the idle returns to normal. It could be over jetted (too big of a jet main) if you unscrew it all the way and still idle's high.

Also, time to check your engine timing.
