I sent DOA pretty much the same email but asked about LCE's Stuff, here is what Tim replied:
Metal backed guides are my invention, I came out with them in 83. Can't really speak for LC's kit, being as I don't buy LC product.

>>>*I don't have a clue who invented anything, don't care. I don't buy either one of theirs, but I do know that Toyota used steel backed guiderails from 1975 to 1982 on the 20R/22R, switching in 1983 to a Nylon style. *Back then I was trying to get 600 H/P out of 355" Chevy NASCAR engines...Did, too, now we get 880....*Yeh, with a carb...

I don't think I even saw a 22R Toyota engine until around 1985 or so, then I started seeing a few. I noticed right off we saw the late ones but not the early engines. All with a broken guiderail on the driver's side, well...sometimes total destruction and everything gone. I ignored all that and just fixed them for a couple of years until one came in with 300,000 on it. The owner was fibbing, I was sure. All I did was wash it, hone it, valve jobs, new rings, bearings, seals, out the door. Not possible to be 300,000.

*A week later another one showed up, same thing, bit less miles.

*Been playing and digging into them ever since.

I do know that LC has a good product, I have had some of it in my hands. I have chatted with a few of their crew, nice folks. Their engines are hard to catch on the racetracks but I bet they see *EB's stuff in the mirror from time to time....

Tim over at DOA is cool, too, he has always been nice to me except once but heck, I can't stay mad at anybody more than about 60 seconds. Besides, I have seen his work, he is better with his hands than me because I am a bit older and don't see as well as I used to.(Well, there ARE those Chevies. I used to build before I retired..I have 5 NASCAR True Value Gold Wrench Awards due to those and I am dang proud of them, my competition voted for me as the best those years.) On the Toyotas, I am just an old man who has parts, pretty much a true fact.

*Course I know a FEW things....

Tim is probably an easy equal to my son Tod (Don't tell Tod I said that or I have to give him more money...) Anyway, works for me, I like to compete and race, and I REALLY like to win! I have emailed back and forth with Tim, nice young man and trying, and his heads are beautiful, too!

I DO know that around 1995 or so I got danged tired of seeing broken guiderails, so I snooped. I found some folks reworking the early stock ones off a 20R, so I did a couple of sets. Heck with that real dang quick, smoke and chips and "work" cutting them down to fit......, I started calling companies until I found one who would make them for me new.

Then I hooked up with a company that supplies me, talked them into putting them in our kits over some cheese and crackers one day down Shreveport way. (Nobody can live there, there is no need for stoves, just use the sidewalk..Lord it was hot.) *Won me $900 in a slot machine at Casino magic in Bossier City that trip, too. (Plus there was the Casino Host I talked into bringing a live band in special for us on a Sunday)...heehee...*Told him we were a "BIG" internet group, DIDN'T tell him there was only 6 of us...but they were happy, everybody in the whole hotel showed up, bet there was 150 people there...good time! AND..They have been trying to book our "internet group" ever since, too....

Me? Heck, the wife and I were having fun and trying to do a deal, and we ended up with that driver's side guide in our kits for only about $10 or so a shot, nice piece, well made, too. (I am prejudiced..)

*Still, I tried everything I could to get them to make BOTH of them that way, engineering said, "Too expensive..." No matter it works fine.

So the fact is buy from the folks who give you that warm fuzzy feeling of confidence. In the end, ALL of us want YOUR job to work, and we want you happy.

The other way, the result is obvious.....But on that guiderail? I still have the engineering report in my desk for the one I had made. I just copied the early factory idea, moved the sizes and bolt holes around to fit the late....easy stuff..

And I will be honest, I LOVE the idea of selling it for $30-35...but I HATE the idea of PAYING that.....*LOL***...*EB
