Smile Under hood light

So, I was working on my rear tire carrier one day, and was waiting for my paint to dry. Bored beyond belief, I thought...Wouldn't it be nice to have a courtesy light set up under my hood for when I have to check stuff when it is dark out?? So I got some help from my dad, and we decided to try wiring up a little light to a push down contact, with a power line to the battery and a ground, and VOILA! It's not going to win me any engineering awards or anything, but something to change my truck up a little, and a nice convenience!

We ran the wiring down one of the braces of the hood, out of a hole which was already there, and into the engine bay, along the driver side fender to the switch and the battery. We used conduit to clean things up.

Picture of the contact switch....

Cost of the mod.....FREE! My dad's got more junk lying around in his garage than most! If you can't find what you need, you either didn't look hard enough, you're just too fussy! lol!

This is pretty nice, went to open my buddies grand cherokee hood and he had one, and told him, 'wow, at least your jeep has one thing better then my runner' but maybe it doesnt even have to be that way now!

looks good and clean. i know alot of people who when they put in a light like that they dont really care and just throw the wire in anywhere.

my pa has a garage like that too. its kinda fun when i have to clean it out for him (hes got a really bad shoulder now) because i find all this cool stuff i could add to the truck or keep for my own.

sweet. My '95 has a bracket, light and a few inches of wire in the hood. I'm pretty sure some came factory with a little light there. Someone just disconnected it in mine

In my opinion, you should have mounted it on the hood so it would spread the light over the engine more, not just by the brake booster.

Cool. Having one of those courtesy lights on my work truck (00 Chevy Silverado) really made me want one of those for the runner too.

But yeah, I know what you mean about your dad having lots of stuff in his garage. My dad's the same way, except he keeps the most worthless and useless junk laying around. lol
