U-joint lube question
Hey guys,
I just bought a hand pump style grease gun and the specified grease for my 97 4wd runner so I can lube the driveshaft u-joints. This being my first time using a grease gun, how do I know how much grease to use? Should I just give each nipple one pump (the little grease nipples, not mine) or will I be able to tell when they are full from several pumps? Any othe grease tips I should be aware of?
Kevin

Good for you! Many don't grease enough (including lube shops).
I use sythetic grease, but any factory spec grease will do. You connect to the nipple and pump. You will hear a kind of a crackle sound when the grease pushes out past the seals It is good when you see a little grease at each seal (4 per U-joint). If you can, wipe up the excess so it doesn't get thrown across the underside of your rig when you drive.
If you see water come out, grease it til grease comes out (same with steering linkage and ball joints). If rusty scummy looking grease comes out, hope for a warm weekend soon to change those joints.
