Turning Left and a POP!

Hello,
For about 2 months or so, whenever I make sharp Left Turns or U-Turns, I get a single "pop" type feel that seems to come from the Front L wheel area...
I got new Bilsteins last year, and new tires last year, new brakes last year...

Nothing else...
Any ideas what It could be? Normal Left turns (90%) don't cause the problem...

What should I consider?
BTW, it's a 1996 4Runner 4WD

I have a 93, and it does the same thing. No idea what it is.

Can not help the first post, but yours is caused by a dry steering stop.
Do a search on the forum for steering stops, and you will see how to lube them to prevent the popping noise.

Yea I already put grease on that a long time ago. This noise is something different, but thanks anyway. For now I just live with it since it only does it backing into my driveway. By the way, I love your website Corey. Your Runner is AWESOME!!

If you make a sharp turn in 4wd you will definately hear a pop from the CVs binding a bit.
Mine does it too....just pull it out of 4wd for the sharp turn and re-engage after.

If you were not in 4wd, you definately have something else binding.

How loud of a pop is it?

I agree with MTL_4runner. If its loud you might want to check your CV axle.

Does this pop occur after the turn and you straighten out your wheel or when your going into a full turn?

Seems like it happens as I'm doing the turn, right as I pass the angle needed for a normal 90 degree left turn and get to the 120 degrees of a 180 degree U-Turn.

This happens when I'm NOT in 4WD (which is most of the time)

I got this same soud popping a while back. I'd go to make a hard left, and I'd get a loud pop out of the right side. It had something to do with my alignment...prolly my bad CV too.

Check your sway bar bushings. This is easy to check and cheap to replace. I had the same popping, and it was caused by the ruptured bushings slipping when the body rolled a little bit. At first mine was only when I made a left turn, but it eventually ruptured both bushings, and I heard the popping when turning either direction.

CV stands for Constant Velocity (Joint). It is the half shaft that connects the wheel to the diff. One per wheel.

the steering stops are on the wheel hub backing plate, front and rear of the wheel.

Look here Wheel pic That is a pic of a member here's wheel. He has the steering stop circled. Ther is one on the opposite side of the wheel just like it.

Sorry... I'm immature. In all seriousness you could probably just use some all-purpose grease? I don't know... I've learned to live with that terrible popping when I turn sharp.
