Tundra brake upgrade
No time to search.....I'm right smack in the middle of my 4Runner to 01 Tundra brake upgrade and need to know which parts off my old calipers will fit on the Tundra calipers....right now it looks like the only parts I will need are new pins? Can I use the old shim kit, anti rattle piece that goes on pads & the wire that holds the pins in? Also...these calipers fit with no trimming necessary...does that seem right?
Please let me know.....Stealership says the Tundra brakes wont fit at all...so they are NO HELP WHATSOEVER!
I gotta work tomorrow and need to get this done today...And I'm almost past the point of no return!

you're correct. new pins should be the only thing needed. if your runner came with 16" wheels (the 00 limited), then you won't need to trim anything.
however, you should verify that the wheels clear the calipers before trying to drive it. you might need to grind down the outermost rib on the face of the calipers to clear the spokes on the wheels.

Like Bamachem said, as long as your truck has 16" rims on it right now and the calipers you got are marked with S13WE on the casting, there should be no grinding necessary to make them fit. Even with that in mind it is always good advice to double check by spinning the wheel (ie after installing the rim, spin it by hand and check for any signs of binding) after the caliper install and make sure there is enough clearance. Yes, you will also need new pins since the old ones won't be long enough for the new wider Tundra calipers. The pads should come with their own shims and a tube of anti-squeal grease....use those.

Guys.....thanks for the quick help! I'm doing it onthe 97 SR5, but it has 16" alloy rims.....caliper clears, but it's close!

*Found the calipers online at a junkyard in WI for $25 each + Shipping
*Brembo Rotors from Tirerack for about $110
*New brake lines from caliper to main hose from dealer for about $20 -I could tell when I started to remove the line from the old caliper that one was gonna break....
*New Hawk Pads from Tirerack for about $60
*New pad pins from dealer for about $15
* 1 can PB Blaster - used in excess! - $4
That's pretty much everything needed to buy...you re-use everything else.....I'm sure you could buy cheaper rotors and pads to save some $$$. Be sure to search real hard for used calipers...the prices are all over the board. It wasn't that tough of a job....I'm gonna do it again on the 2000 limited I have. You can "feel" the bigger rotor and the stopping ability is waaaay better. I hope this finally puts an end to my rotor warping!

I just Installed the Tundra Brakes last night!! Used the 199mm Calipers, Everything bolts right into place...Did the job in 30 Mins... Now just need a couple days to break in the pads!!
Calipers = $$165 each
Rotors = $$90 each
Performance Ceramic Pads = $$95
Hard ware kit = $$50 (from Toyota)
~ Kit includes ; new pins (4); new Shims (4); new pin retainer springs (2); new anti-rattle springs (2)
Brake paint = $$7.50
All Prices in CDN $$ Total cost About $$650 with all new parts!!
