True Dual Exhaust

True Dual Exhaust
I just went to my muffler shop to try and get dual mufflers installed on my 99 4Runner, however, he said it was not advisable with the spare tire in place. He said he could do it by running the pipe under the axle (for the driver side exhaust), but that would look tacky and reduce ground clearance. Is there any way to have a dual exhaust while keeping the spare tire in place? If I do take the spare tire out, where would be a good place to put it besides the trunk?
Furthermore, if I do decide to just get a single side out, is it possible later on to make it a dual exhaust system (provided I want the spare tire gone?)

If an exhaust shop told you it would not be a good idea...perhaps you should listen?
Dual exhaust on our vehicles is pointless bling anyways. The reason they are bad near the spare is obviously heat. The exhaust pipes produce enough heat to ruin the tire. I know this from experience.

yes yes yes pointless bling..and it will melt yer spare..hahaha
although it would look ALOT better than a single side exhaust..sounds to me like a good reason to get a rear bumper/tire carrier..hahahaha

Just add a fake pipe on the left side since adding all the piping and another muffler isn't going to add any power and the extra weight will actually hinder performance.

there is no point to a dual exhaust for our v6.. it reduces the back pressure.. if ya want dual and to keep power you are gonna have to run dual 1.5's... would be gay.. stick with the 2.25 that we run on a single all the way back..

There are ways, but in an attempt to help you save face I will not help you
As everyone is suggesting, get a nice muffler with a nice quality tip like Gibson and you'll be good. Apparently that's the thing right now where you're at. I do know that duals are getting phased out altogether now, getting replace by high diameter single piping, see them all the time on chevys and fords

didn't say it sounded bad. just after owning a '95 camaro with a full catback and 40's...it's just not the same
