TRD Off-Road Package?
I'm new to trucks and this is my first truck. I bought a 2000 toyota tacoma pre runner and the guy told me that it had a TRD off-road package. It had the stickers on the bed. So i figured he wasnt lying. But when i looked at my co-workers truck it has a button for the locker. I thought the ECT locker was for the locker. Is there another way to check if it has a locker? Maybe the button is just gone or something?? Man i feel so stupid :pat: Can anyone help me?

There should be a RR DIFF LOCK button on the left side of the steering wheel. if not, you dont have one.

yes you can put one on. What will it cost? an arm and a leg.
yes, you can just buy the button and use it with the aftermarket one.
Do a search for 3rd gen lockers.

I have to agree with Local. You should start by doing a few searches and then post up some questions.
Search for:
e-locker swap
dash switch
diff locker button
stuff like that will get you off and running. I think it is far to say that most of us do a lot more reading than posting.
Not trying to flame you out or anything
Welcome to Yotatech. I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

If a careful search of your dashboard doesn't reveal that button that LocalMotion talks about, take a look at your rear differential and see if there is a fist-sized odd-looking box attached forward (towards the hood) of it. If this guy just slapped on the TRD stickers and BS'd you then you should be pretty mad at him.

That is a good point. When did you buy it? You are not the first guy to get ripped off like this. I would go right back to him and make an issue out of it. Stickers or no stickers if he told you it had the TRD package a 2000 should have had the Bilstein shocks and the e-locker. It is fraud to do what he did and you have legal recourse if you so choose. I would, no question.
The thing is that most salesmen are ignorant of their product features. Some really think that the TRD is just an apperance pkg.
I would go back and ask that salesman to repeat that what he sold you is a TRD Taco. Then I would ask to see the sales manager and ask him what is included in the PKG. Finally I would ask him to point out those parts on your truck that they sold you. Combined together the TRD parts are worth at least $2000 for resale value.
You could easily prove that to him and ask for the differenc back or that the truck have the parts installed (which they will not probably do).
You pretty much got screwed.

I caught my dealer in Seattle in a lie, or maybe they were tricked also.
I was looking @ an 01 Double cab taco W/TRD stickers........just stickers. Be very careful, research before you buy.

here's a closeup of an e-locker on a taco. It is located on the driver's side of the "pumpkin" aka differential of your rear axle. Just lie underneath the truck by the driver's door and look back to see your rear axle.
