Question Transmission leaking into Transfercase?

I am having trouble with my automatic transmission on my 93 4Runner V6 SR5. The transmission starts to slip and shortly afterwards ATF starts spewing out of the transfercase air vent. I opened up the transfercase to check the fluid level and about 2 quarts of ATF came out. I assume there is a seal between the transmission and transfercase that has gone bad. Anyone else had any experience with this problem and what was the fix? I also had a problem with my ATF oil temp light coming on while using Dexron III as a substitute for Dexron II. I switched to Toyota ATF and have not had a problem since.

The trans/transfer actually share fluid. They are considered one unit and are not detachable.

The auto tranny transfer case does have it's own fill plug where the level is set. Do you mean you took out the fill plug and the transfer case was 2 quarts too full?

It sounds like to me the tranny slipping is generating way too much heat and over-pressurizing the transmission so its blowning ATF out where ever it can to relieve the pressure. Sorry dude, but sounds like your tranny is toast.
