The Transformation: Nerf Bars Installed

before

after

closer up

one bent broom pole and broken 3" extension bar later they're on

I tried using my puney tools from my house but they just wouldnt get those bolts to budge. i went over to the tire center at my work and used their air ipact wrences. took those bolts off like there was no tomorrow

using my tools it would have taken probably 3 or 4 hours

using their tools it took me 20 minutes go get both on

I LOVE these things!

Looks great! I've got the same ones in the wrinkle/rust finish. Watch the leading edges of those for rust after they get chipped up (keep paint on them...)

Well, it looks like Dr. Z is in a better mood

Sorry to hear about NWOR - I've picked up a few items from them but it has been awhile.

I had the same nerf bars on my 86 4Runner

I'm planning on BL sliders on my 954runner

Hey Donc,

Did I miss something, or did you already buy your SMT-5? If so, when's the install party?

hehe thanks

I havent actually washed it with soap and water in over a month. I guess that's what happens when you have 3 coats of wax on there, dirt just wont stick to the paint.

Show me a pic of those "nerf bars" after some rock running. Then you'll understand the difference between them and rock sliders. But if its a soccermom Runner, more power!! haha only kidding, but they look ok.

not a problem. The directions that you emailed me (i believe you scanned them) worked perfectly... and stayed in my car as i never actually needed them. it was a no brainer i guess

very happy.. once again thank you for such a deal. nobody noticed that they were used. you really packed them in there!

there was a large tear on the box when i got it.... but it didnt hurt the bars at all... that's UPS for ya

I was kinda worried about the shipping & those were the original directions that I got w/ them.

When my ARB arrived at the shop I ordered it from it had a huge hole in that box. Talk about being worried. I guess one guy trying to carry that bumper around in a box was a bit much.

how did you originally install them? did you use a breaker bar or an impact gun?

getting my fingers in tehre to put the back sides on... that's a tight squeeze!

They were kinda tight but I soaked them w/ WD40 for a while & did the job w/ reg tools.

i sprayed my bolts with liquid wrench (IMO better than WD-40) the night before and reapplied the morning of. i still couldnt break those bolts free. and as you saw, it broke my extension bar

Impact wrench = teh win

I even torqued them on there to the right setting, 70lbs

Perhaps the quality of the extension and your broom handle breaker bar was a bit dubious?

Dave.
