Transfer Case/5spd Tranny Leak

Under the '96 4x4 Runner last week lubing the drive lines and ran into something I didn't like. At the junction between the Transfer Case and 5sp Transmission there is a collection of gear oil that is fresh. I noticed that this junction has been gasketed by the orange FIPG material. Naturally, I checked the levels in the transfer case and transmission and they were OK.

So the big question: Tear it down and replace it? Or just keep a close watch on the levels??

How hard would it be to redo this joint??

Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks.

not too bad, just put a tranny jack under the transmission, remove the crossmember and unbolt the transfer case. it's a little heavy(about 70lbs) to move around with but it's doable.

You could first check the bolts around the joint for tightness, especially around the leaking area.

Bolt were confirmed tight. I'm kinda for the wait and watch method as I don't have time for it right now.

Thanks
