Trail Gear bumper on my 3rd gen 4Runner?
Im thinking of ordering a trail gear #4 bumper for my 98' runner. (yes i know they dont make one for 3rd gen, im gonna fab it to make it fit.) but before i order it here in a few days I wanted to get some opinions from people who have experience with them. Good, Bad?
heres the thread of why im doing this, and i will be doing the build on for anyone who wants to follow GATTORA
and for you yotatechers

ARB bumper. hands down.
I have a TJM on my 92 and i bought it used for 400 bucks. i'd make the investment. I've lost control and slammed into a 4-5 foot dirt wall and all it did to my truck was leave a clump of dirt on one of the headlight bars. definitely built strong. those Aussies really know how to make some good crap besides... tubular bumpers to me are meant for trucks. i'd rather have a 4runner lookin' like a tank.

It will be too narrow and IMO won't look right.
3rd gens look best with plate bumpers IMO.
I have seen and installed just a few bumpers, TG and ARB.
Just modified an ARB two weeks ago for a 2" body lift.

yep measured, got a mig welder, grinders cutters. spare dom. tube, and square tube to build a mounting bracket
and tax and shipping of the tg will be about $425, just over.

go to google and image search trail gear bumper. We're just giving you the heads up that it will not look right. Plus, there are a lot more visible/showing components on a 3rd gen compared to a 1st or 2nd gen 4runner with this style bumper. It would not look good. I know you like this style and don't get me wrong, I like the style too but not particularly on a 3rd Gen 4Runner. Unless it's a huge 3rd Gen beast with an SAS and an exo-cage it wont look all that great.

been there, done that, i know a couple guys who have done it on their 98+ tacos that are not beast trucks. and I met a guy up at tellico the christmas right before it closed who had done it to his runner. looked decent to me. and im not going to leave it the way tg designed it. Ill probably add on to it, basher plates, etc. Im really just trying to find out if its a good product or not from people who have dealt with the company and the product.

I reaffirm that a TG bumper will not look right or perform as it should without a MAJOR overhaul. If you got the time and $$, go for it and good luck.

So you really want to know if TG makes a good product or if this bumper can be modified to fit? Or both or what? It's getting befuddled quickly in here.
So to sum up, be easier to make your own than modify the one you mention, cheaper to buy a used ARB, and TG makes nice bumpers. That about get it all?
Or perhaps try Adam at 4xInnovations he makes 3rd gen tube bumpers.
