type of oil for '89 4runner

What type of oil and weight should i put in an '89 3.0 6cyl w/EFI and 215k mi?

some people tell me that with higher mileage engines, I should put in 20w50. that was with an older ford engine that burned as much oil as it did gas.

I've tried 20W50, 10W40 and 10W30 and some of the "High Mileage" oils in my 3.0 V6 with 206k, and the oil consumption was the same with all of them. Then about a year ago I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic and the oil useage dropped considerably, from 1 liter every 10 day to about 1 litre every month now. So that's what I recomend.
Of course that's if you're burning the oil, if you have leaks then there is no point in letting expensive synthetic oil drip onto the ground.

I put Mobil 1 Syn in my 89 V6 3.0 190k miles and I would have to fill it up every 2 weeks. I'm not leaking oil on the floor, my garage is spotless I switched to Mobil High Mileage and now can go 3000k miles without filling it up.

I have always run Valvoline - 10-40 in the winter and 20-50 in the heat of the summer. Maybe that's the reason I got 297,000 ORIGINAL miles out of her before the HG started to leak! Could Be!
