Lightbulb Toyota Electric Locker 88 Toy 4runner...

After doing some research I have decided to go with the Toyota electric locker. However I have read up on the mods that you have to do to the 8" diff and I was wondering if I could just pull a diff and axles off of the newer TRD tacoma or 4runner is there a major difference width, size compatibility? Thanks!

width is your main difference, taco is 60" 86-95 is 58", the 4runner axle is set up for a link setup, not leafs like you have now

yes, i think their might be a small difference is width, but it is very negligible.... it is a lot easier to swap the whole axle than retrofit the elocker to the 88 housing..... the 88 housing isn't all that hard to retrofit though.... there are several places that have writeups on the modifications... http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/

after seeing the post above, if its a taco rear end, its fine, has leafs... if its from a newer runner, then its a lot of work becuase yuo would need to figure out where to mount leave or coils, as the 4 runner had coils after 89

would throwing on a tacoma rear diff get me around too many mods and also give me a tougher diff? Or are they pretty much the same as the 8"
