Hi all,

I've posted before about pulling a car on a trailer and got the response that it wouldn't be a great idea. I listened of course! I assume I will get the same answer about this but wanted to double check.

I have a '00 4Runner SR5 2WD, 129K miles. Just replaced the driveshaft and Ujoint! No extra trans cooler installed yet.

I've pulled 2 SeaDoos before on a double trailer without any issues.
My buddy and I have a '96 21foot openbow SeaRay. I don't know how much it weighs.

We are selling the lake house and need to move the boat to the marina so we can drystack it. The total drive from the house to the marina is about 15 miles. I'd have to drive up 1 pretty steep hill.

Should I just play it safe and pay someone with a truck to come and move it?

I would think you would be fine if it's only 15 miles. Do you have the 2.7 or 3.4?

youll be fine no problem. i towed a 24' Tige wakeboard boat that weighed 5000 pounds including trailer. i wasn't going to win any races with it and you need extra braking distance but my '00 Tacoma 3.4 handled it just fine. at 15 miles you SHOULD be ok without a tranny cooler but its always good insurance to have one anyway ya know?

 

I would feel better about answering this if I knew the toung weight of the trailer with the boat on it and your hitch set up. Which engine do you have? 15 Miles on the high way or back roads, hilly or flat land ect.

My Tacoma with the 3RZ pulls a 16ft 2500lbs, boat and trailer just fine with a Class 4 hitch.

 

come on dude i used to tow my old boat with my 22re down to the river, lake, beach, etc. if a 22re can do it, then a 3.4 def. can

 

Just dont lug the trans, keep the rpm's up so the converter locks up.

 

A 21' foot run about is likely around 3500 lbs. Should be no problem. I have a 18' with a 190 HP inboard V6 and tow it back home to wax the hull every year about 70 miles and then back to the cottage. Mine's about 2900 lbs. I have never had a problem (on at ruck with almost 200k miles on it). But you won't set any 1/4 mile records. I just start slow and get up to speed, and have to disengage the over drive when going up hills. I have lots of steep hills to climb right near the cottage and they are stone roads, so I usually go into 4WD for this part.

 

i have 96 5 speed 3.4 and i tow a 17' bayliner open bow no problem
if course its slow going at first but you shouldnt be going fast anyway at anytime

 

Should'nt be an issue at all. Be careful if the ramp if it is particularly slimey, you don't have 4wd to help you get off, but then you knew that already lol. Like other posters have said take you time getting her up to speed and leave a good amount of extra space for braking and you'll be fine. I'd leave the OD off as well, you'll get better engine braking and throttle responce that way.

 

amen on the slippery ramp, i have to do 4wd a lot and if its real steep, ive had to go into 4lo before so i dont fry my clutch.

 

hows towin a uhaul trailer with yours? ever done it? if not, anyone with a 22re or 22r ever towed one? im thinking im gonna need one for the next time i go to vegas to pick up the rest of my stuff... think my truck will handle it on the 15, or will the clutch say *#$& this, and stop workin? sorry to hijack, but i think its around the same question as yours.
