Totaled or Fixable

I got into an accident last night. It was about 9:30ish pm.

I was cruising along the road (5 lane roadway, center lane is a turn lane) about 40-45 mph. A lady in her 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee decided that it was alright to pull out in front of me from a side street. I hit her, in the driver’s side rear quarter panel and rear end with my passenger’s front. It happened so quick that I locked all 4 wheels, and ABS never had time to work.

Well I get out I say a few choice words, I don’t know what I say it was bad… what I said made her cry, and she started to say “I am so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention, I was on my cell phone, and I couldn’t see you.”

So the police called… police come take care of all the paper work and I wanted her to be at fault because she pulled out of a side street and didn’t stop at the “Stop” sign. The cop did ticket her for the accident, “Failure to yield right of way.”

So here are some pictures: http://community.webshots.com/album/244630948SZeSoT

Well the battery is pushed back 6-8” from its normal location. The front door mounts are broken they have pulled away from the body. Both of the passengers doors are out of alignment.

I have been in contact with both mine and her insurance company. Her insurance company is taking care of the damages.

So my question is my 4Runner a goner or repairable? And if you have “totaled a 4Runner”, I want some specs and how much did you get for it.

damn dude.. that sucks... hate people on their cellphones while driving *hides cellphone*

as for if it's repairable or not.. take it to a shop, get a quote.. if the quote is higher then the bluebook value, then the insurance company will write it off.. or just pay you bluebook value.

doesn't look like alot of damage to the cab, not too shabby for 45mph... feel a bit more comfortable in my 2nd (got worried when i seen one t-boned at a scrapyard.. dunno if the driver made it)

That's a pretty bad hit. I'd would say it's totaled also.

Everyone in my vehicle is unharmed... However the driver of the Jeep did sustain an injury. A big fat lip from smacking herself with her own cell phone. After she said that, I couldn’t stop laughing.

I will be buying another Toyota, I am not sure if I want a Tacoma (Xtra Cab) or 4Runner. Will be SR5 and have V6 and 5 speed trans.

If it is totalled, try and buy it back for the salvage price from the ins. co. and sell the parts here or on ebay to make even more money to put towards the new purchase. I am sure there are plenty of unhurt items some guys here could use. Sorry about your loss but again thank goodness you wern't hurt.

Hummm. Totaled, maybe. If so, I see the start of a nice non-street legal trail rig.

Glad you were not hurt.

Dude.......that is why I refuse to talk on my cell while driving. Man that sucks, that is one sweet runner. The frame seems to be okay judging from the pics, but there is alot of damage elsewhere. I too think it looks like the motor has been pushed back, but it's hard to tell. That runner is way too nice to send to a scrapyard. I'd definately see if I could buy it back from the ins. company. Good luck man!

Chop the fenders hood and cab weld on roll cage and you will have a good buggy for playing. With a hammer and bondo anything is possible. Sorry to here about the ride!

yeah mine was not near that bad and it sucked. Sorry man. Get the insurance agent to total it...then offer to buy it back really cheaply like dude said...friend of mine just did this and got his mini van back no prob...spend the rest on another one and part this baby out...Funny same spot as mine too (and my friend's mini van) ...seems to be a popular spot to get hit.

[start useless rant]My god, I HATE when people talk on their cellphones and drive. Drives me nuts, the fat lip and large increase in her insurance serves her right. For damns sake is it really so important that you can't wait to get where your going or at least pull over? My friend always juggles his cell, his gear shifter and his food, I'm suprised he hasn't totaled his truck yet. You'd think people would learn...[/end useless rant]

I agree - the insurance company will total it.

Glad you and your passengers are OK. Buy it back from the insurance company - if you don't want it - tell me and I will but it. It would make a great trail only rig. I love my 2nd generation 4 runner.

Seriously - if you don't want it let me know !!!!

damn vultures
