tires / rims for 96 tacoma

hello I've been doing a bunch of research scoping out different threads trying to find out about tire / rim combination for my truck and i'm not reall y sure I've found an answer so I figured I would just ask. I bought some 17" Toyota rims that were claimed to have come off a Tacoma and I was just looking on ebay at 17" tires. so my question is will 265 /70 R17 work on my 96 Tacoma without any issues? thank you

They will work just fine. They will be the same size as 265/75 R16 which is what I have on my 2002 4Runner and is a very common size on new 1/2 ton pickups with 17" wheels. It's the same width and about half an inch taller than a 31/10.50 R15 which is a very common tire size for your Tacoma. You should be able to get a like-new take-offs from any dealership or a local seller. Folks buy new trucks and upgrade the tires before they leave the lot many times because they can roll the cost of them into their note.

Anyway, super easy tire to find and will work great on yours. I bet I've got two sets laying around the shop at work. We pull them off and put on 285/70s on all of our company pickups.

Not a lot of folks are going to want to chime in on this subject because there are many things that play into the equation like the offset of the wheels and what kind of off roading you are going to be doing. I wouldn't want to tell you that a tire will fit and then you find out, after dropping $1200 or a set, that it is rubbing when you hit a bump or turn hard. I personally have never run anything bigger than a 265/75R16 on a stock third gen 4runner. Even then, I got a little rub from the front of the running board that I had to trim. I doubt you will be able to go any bigger without some modification but I have never had a Tacoma which has a little bit different fender setup. I have put 3" spacer lifts on my last two 4Runners and don't have any issues with that size. I feel like I could even run a 285 size tire with this setup but I won't tell you that you can do it without ever bolting a couple on and trying it.
