Timing belt, seals?

pulley
If it makes a grinding noise and its sounds like its coming from the timing belt cover. You can pretty much bet its the idler pulley or tensinoner pulley.Truck is on thin ice .Its paid for but what good is it if I cant depend on it.If I have to replace it Im going with a GMC duramax with allison tranny.Im starting to out grow small vehicles anyway.Im getting another bass boat and it would be nice to tow it with out knowing its back there. If I sell one Im getting rid of my 04 taco as well. The 1,000 a dollar a year ins on it will help feed the gmc.Im 44 this month and the insurance on these things is out rageous for what it is.I have never had wreck that was my fault. They claim its because the price of parts. It aint made out of gold.It cost me 2,000 bucks a year to insure an 02 and a 04.I have a 03 corvette and pay the same on it as I do the 04 taco 4cyl 4x4 extcab.Go figure.May change my mind after I cool off.Who knows.

I just had the waterpump, timing idler pulley and a new belt put on.Its an 02 with 21,000 miles.... Its sad because the drive train is made in japan.... Building them over here was the kiss of death.
The '02 model was still built in Japan.

No its a 02 tacoma 3.4 dbl cab.Timing idler pulley shot.Water pump seal leaking also. With 21,000 miles on it?They had to change the belt also due to antifreeze leaking on it!I figured I wouldnt be doing things like this until at least 60,000 miles. They didnt look that suprised at the service dept either.Thats the scary part!Im going to recheck everything they did.Including the crank pulley torque. After the left a bolt out of the fan shroud and left the otheres lose I dont have a whole lot of trust in them. The only reason I let them do it is because its still under warranty. At least for one more year.Unless its something major I will fix it my self. After the warranty is out I will fix even if it is majorThat is if I even keep it!My faith is fading quickly.I have had othere problems with it but I fixed them my self and just wrote it off.Since they started building them over here its been down hill.I bought a brand new 79 4x4 and put 253,000 on it before I sold it.One clutch, timing chain, waterpump and clutch master cylinder.Thats it.Never had to take it back for warranty work period.Since then I have owned a 97,99 taco,02tundra with a main bearing problem,I just got rid off it.My 02 and an 04 I bought last year.I had to fix water leaks in both of them.the 02 has a strange rattling in the steering column.Souds like one of the joints. It makes it loudest when you hit a pot hole with right front tire and then hit another imperfection in the road right after it with the left tire.Sort of racking the steering back and forth.Just sitting in the drive way with the engine off you can turn the wheel back and forth and faintly here it.Sounds like a lose column mount bolts but they are all tight.Anyone want to take guess as to what it is let me know. Its coming from inside the cab and I have checked everything around the column and its tight.Just going down the road and turning the wheel to left and right on smooth road you wont here it.Driving me nuts.
