Timing Belt Cost
#21
In the Bay Area it costed me 550 for just the tbelt if I remember correctly a few years ago. The truck was still under warranty so if anything ever happened, the dealership did all the work on it. I just undertook this job the other weekend and it costed me probably about 200 bucks for the t-belt, waterpump, thermostat, toyota radiator fluid, radiator cap and the stap-on tool to compress the tensioner. I decided to make my own sst to hold the balancer in place while i struggle with the crank bolt. PB blaster is a great thing btw. After finding out that a 2x4 won't hold(saw it on another website) I took apart one of my gorilla racks and drilled the correct holes for the pegs to hold the balancer and larger single hold for the extension to fit through, the bolt came off. The rack held up for a one time use of taking it off and putting it on. It was a bit manged but bent back into shape. The whole job is pretty strait forward and isn't that hard except for the crank bolt. If you do decide to do it yourself, go to home depot and pick up a 2 inch by 3 ft small channel steel and use the frame rail to brace against while getting off the crank bolt. Also use a piece of cardboard to cover the radiator because things will bump into it while you are working on the front of the motor.

I had my '02 done back in May '07...water pump, timing belt, and all drivebelts. $556 with tax. I think their labor rate has gone up $3/hr since then. These guys were the cheapest in the area ( of the Toy dealers) but theyve also been the most reliable as far as service work goes for me!

prices are all over the place but there is no consistency on what is being done for the price. I did mine and I did the belt, the pump, crank and cam seals, themostat, tensioner and idler pulley, drive belts and coolant flush. Parts were right about $350
