I take it you installed the 315s on the stock wheels? Which a-arms did you go with? You are rubbing on the frame when you turn, similar to the way most do with 285s and stock wheels? I think that rubbing actually comes from the height of the tire and not the width. Im also guessing you've already pounded the pinch weld pretty good? More details please...and pics

the will rub on the frame and on the upper a-arm from the width and on the firewall and fender from the height.

it requires sheet metal surgery to wheel w/ them or a scarey-tall body lift.

Well I am looking to run 295s or 305s with my stock wheels and wanted to compare his findings to what I can expect whenever I change out the rubber. I've got a 1" body lift, the ATS arms and have already done a considerable amount of trimming inside the fenders, so I am hoping I can manage with minimal extra effort to make them work.

i rub ever so slightly on a full droop on the upper arm w/ my 305's on the 16x8's and 4.5" of backspacing. not enough to worry about, but they do grunt at me when the MT/R's knobs meet the upper arm. like i said though, only at full droop.

Damn, I'm runing a 3" suspension lift, and soon to be 1" body lift on 4" BS wheels, and I was afraid to go anything more than 285s for my next tires, maybe not now though.

Ryan, I have basically the same setup as you only with stiffer 882 springs. I had to do a good bit of trimming to fit 285's with the a-arms. Before trimming I rubbed so bad on the pinchweld that I couldn't even turn the steering wheel when stuffed. So I cut and pounded a good bit at Crawfords. This was before the bodylift though. I have yet to wheel with the 1" bodylift and swaybar disconnected. This coming May will probably be my first chance.

brett/ryan: i have 2.5" up front w/ 1"-BL and some pinch weld pounding and i clear the 305's everywhere except on full droop when they kiss the upper arms ever so gently... however, that's on the LX wheels w/ slightly more BS and 1" more width.

Hey Brett,

I ran 285s with this setup originally, and I basically ran them rub-free, except for the full-turn/flex rub on the frame. NOTE: I did a ton of pinch weld and other trimming inside the front fenders.

So this is why I am hoping I can get by with 295s or 305s. Another thing to consider is that I will be getting ATs and will not have to worry about the lugs of MTs.

2" susp + 1" body + ATS arms + lots of trimming is where I stand now.

I am looking to add 295/305 ATs on stock wheels [in the future] without them rubbing too much on the frame.

I was reading this thread to compare his results to mine, and it looks like I will be able to accomplish this.

Ryan, I think you will be ok. My main reason for the a-arms was b/c of the MT's and lugs rubbing on the a-arm. I would not hesitate to run 305's or the taller 295's like Andy said. 315's-I would be ready to break out a big hammer. I may try something in the 34" range or maybe not, I seem to get everywhere on 33's right now.

I think the frame rubbing is un-avoidable.

I have done extensive research on the actual sizes of the Nitto Terra Grappler, Cooper STT and Maxis Bighorn.

285 NTG: 32.68" x 11.3"
295 NTG: 33.27" x11.73"
285 STT: 33.1" x 11.3"
315 STT: 34.47" x 11.92"
285 Bighorn: 32.9" x 11.6"

285 and 305 are the same height. The only difference is in the width.
