temperature gauge in 02 tacoma v6 maxing out

Ok so I have a 02 supercharged v6 tacoma, the temp gauge goes all the way up while driving, at first it was intermitent but now its most all the time. I changed the ECT sensor with no effect, I read somewhere there is a seoerate sensor for the gauge, but I have no idea where it is. What should my next step be, and if it involves said sensor please can someone tell me where it is, maybe a pic? Thanks
BTW: I know its not overheating, because if I tap on the gauge it will read normal temp (I know its probly not good to tap on the gauge)

If you can tap on the gauge and it goes to normal, it sounds like the gauge itself is bad.

I agree, if you tap on the guage and it starts working then it's not the sensor. When a gauge is pegged, it means it's grounding out so check the (-) wire to the guage. If securing the ground doesn't help, replace the guage.
