Exclamation Tacoma Engine Issues 96 3.4

I have a 96 3.4 tacoma, the other day i was out messing around in the snow and all of a sudden there was a terrible klunk and knocking noise coming from my engine.. I pulled over and took a look and there was oil blown all over my passangers side wheel.. Well, here are my problems that i have now..

I am looking to buy a used motor but have called many many people and just dont know what one to go with.. I have over 10 of them but most are out of state and have over 90k in millage.. Although they offer warrenty i just dont know if i want to go down that road dealing with shipping it back if theres a problem.. I guess i am asking if anyone knows anyone that is dependable that sells used motors, i live in portland oregon..

Also, i am going to be doing this engine swap with some of my buddies in a week or so.. When installing this motor, what things should i be changing out when installing this used motor in my truck? I have bought a new clutch, water pump, belts, new timing belt.. What else? Also does anyone out there have a PDF of the engine service manual..When buying this new motor they state that a compression test as been done but, what is a good compression for an engine? Thanks alot for all of your help..

thanks alot

Matt

One of the best things you can do is use the TIS site and pay the $10 day fee. Download all the PDF's you want from there.

You might want to check the valve clearance, which is adjusted by shims, before the motor goes in. I would also pull the injectors and have them sent out to Witch Hunter Performance to have them cleaned, flow tested, and balanced. I've used him and he is a good guy with fast turnaround and great prices. Also, if you ever think you might do headers, now would be the time. Aside from checking everything out on the backside of the motor, that should be about it.

I have an FSM for an 03 Taco, and also for a 93 Pickup, but neither of which are EXACTLY your truck, if you want either one, just let me know.
