Tacoma clutch options
I think the clutch in my truck is starting to slip a bit and it smells some after a drive. It also doesn't engage until the pedal is almost completely out. At 185k miles with an uncertain amount on 33s and 3.91 gears, I'm not surprised that it needs to be done.
Most parts house options are around $300 for the clutch kit, the Marlin HD kit is $300+ shipping, and an Exedy OEM kit is $172.xx with free 2 day shipping from Amazon.
Any thoughts on what clutch is the best?
Thanks

After doing more research I think I'm going to stick with an OEM replacement because the TRD and Centerforce options are both pretty expensive.
Haven't decided between Exedy or Aisin though.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'm going to stick with an OEM replacement because the TRD and Centerforce options are both pretty expensive.
After doing some research I decided Exedy is comparable to Aisin in quality so the price difference isn't really justified.
I have ordered the Exedy OEM kit and will get it installed this weekend!

Got this done thanks to a family friend this weekend. Thanks Robert!
Found some interesting things. At one point, a pressure plate must have exploded. The inside of the bellhousing is scarred and there was a pressure plate finger in the bottom of the bellhousing, but the installed pressure plate was fine. When that happened, they must have pulled it apart just enough to replace the clutch and cover, but they never resurfaced the flywheel.
The clutch was glazed in parts and completely new in other spots. The flywheel is pitted/scarred, and really glazed, so the clutch disc wasn't necessarily at fault. We ended up buying a new flywheel. Napa pricematched O'Reilly, so I saved a few bucks there.
All said and done, the Exedy kit was very complete and seemed very good in quality compared to the parts house brand offerings.
