I don't think there is one that is better. It just depends on what you need to do with your vehicle. If you carry around lots of people or small to midsized cargo a 4Runner will probably be what you prefer, but if you haul around lots of large stuff and need a truck then a Tacoma is better. There isn't really a right answer.

Personally at the moment my 4Runner is best suited for me, but I think my next purchase once I graduate from college will be a Tacoma. By then I won't be playing taxi with my friends so much and I'll be more interested in being able to haul larger loads (I'll probably buy a new house too) and off-roading.

I'll probably still go for an extended/double cab though. Who knows, maybe I'll even go for a Tundra...

Yea it all depends on what your needs are. I personally love my 4runner. I think that I will probably get a new 4runner down the road or maybe a new tundra double cab.

I had a 1994 Ranger X-cab (I know its no Tacoma). But the reason I wanted a 4Runner is because of a real back seat. The back seat in the X-cab compact pickups (Taco Double Cab excluded) is just too small.

i think a 4runners better...but with the tacoma double cab, you have the best of both worlds. sufficient passenger room and an open bed to carry large cargo. my dad has a double cab, and the rear passengers are very roomy.

When I bought my 4Runner it was a bit of a rushed decision. At the time double cabs weren't as prevailant as today, and the extended cab pickups seemed a little too small. I knew I wanted enough room for 4 people and that I needed an SUV or a truck for the cargo room. I found the 4Runner and it fit the bill.

In retrospect, the amount of legroom in the back of my 4Runner isn't much better than in an extended cab Tacoma, and I'd have probably been a little better off with a truck bed that wouldn't limit the height of the cargo I've wanted to carry.

My 4Runner is just fine for now though, eventually I'd like to get one of the double cabs Tacomas or Tundras though.
