T-Stat Replacement... hard?
hi, ive searched for posts on replacing tstats. seems like lotsa ppl have probs with overheating and their tstats.
i got my oil changed today and the mech recommended that i change the tstat. $39 for part and $75 for labor. i was all forget that. imma do it myself!
lately, my car has been overheating... but only when im at a standstill or in heavy traffic in LA. If im not moving and no air is passing thru my rad, it starts to overheat. but once im out of traffic, and start moving it slowly goes down. I have to turn off my car while i wait in the drive thru at MC D's
What else could be the culprit? would following the mech's advice and changing the tstat fix the problem?
how hard is it to change the tstat? i'll look more into my haynes manual when i get home tonight.
thanks!

I am having this problem. i just replaced the radiator with a KOYO and still the same thing. also if i blast the heater on full, the gauge drops back to normal. i burped the rad the best i could but this was happening even before i changed the radiator. fan seems ok so i guess i should replace the tstat? thanks

Change out the T-stat regardless for cheap insurance.

It's an easy process. I did it and I'm just learning about my runner. The T-stat for the 3.4 engine is on the lower rad hose. Make sure you do it while it's cooled down obviously, and you have to drain the radiator fluid, so it'd be a good time to do a flush. Take the 3 nuts off of the pipe housing and it comes right off. the t-stat is sitting there and will most likely just fall out. Just replace it and you're basically done. Refill your radiator with proper coolant and burp the system.
