Hello Folks, just joined the forum hoping to find solution and not get rid of my beloved vehicle. I own a 99
Toyota 4Runner"><span style=Toyota 4Runner" /> Toyota 4Runner">Toyota 4Runner
-SR5, the 4 wheel https://www.yotatech.com/# light is engaged and I cannot shift out off 4
wheel drive I"><span style=wheel drive I" /> wheel drive I">wheel drive I
thought. The vehicle is drivable but feels like it is stuck in 4-LoW because the engine is revving 30 rpms at 20 https://www.yotatech.com/#. I feel the truck shifting into first and second gears but will not shift any higher when accelerating.

I had my mechanically inclined brother in law remove the shaft leading to transfer case believing if stuck in 4
wheel drive I"><span style=wheel drive I" /> wheel drive I">wheel drive I
could manually disengage the front wheels from 4 wheel drive mode and be able to drive in rear wheel drive only.

This did not solve the problem but made me wonder if I have a problem with the
rear wheel differential"><span style=rear wheel differential" /> rear wheel differential">rear wheel differential
. I am totally guessing here and if I sound stupid please forgive my ignorance, just love the truck like my favorite childhttps://www.yotatech.com/# toy(smile) and before I have to make tough decisions like possibly taking to the dealer I want to make sure I have a full understanding before Mr. Fuzzy Dealer mechanic takes me to the cleaners.

Thanks in advance,
Trunner4

Gotta love the 96! 99% maintenance with a few little fun bits and pieces thrown at it...

By take care of the deckplate mod today, I assume you mean that you removed it in order to get the best performance?

Welp I am new so figured i might as well post up the rig. I frequent the t4r.org forum and found alot of swap info on here and figured it might be a good place to start for a v8 swap on a 2nd runner i just obtained.

Here is my rig that is slowly getting modded more and more...

My '97 limited w/factory E-locker, sunroof and RS3000. Bone stock. I'm 2nd owner. purchased in July 2015. 149,000mi. Fully loaded minus the fog lamps(bummer). Run of the mill compared to all the nice T4Rs here but I love it and can't wait to drive it in the snow!
