I have heard this, not sure if I'm right just what I had heard.
2nd gen runners use the rear LC coils tall the longer one goes on the right side to accommodate the weight of the fuel tank.
3rd gen use the front LC coils.
Just what I have heard. I believe the coils I installed were rear LC coils and I did install the slightly longer one on the right side.

All pics are off my cell, so they suck. But it's all I got. This is the 1KZ turbo diesel and it rocks. It's my DD and hunting rig for five months a year.

Back before building a winch bumper for the back
Just a little snow
Having a little fun
Back when it used to belong to a sane person
Back when I was destroying the stock rear POS bumper

Pornalicious if I do say so myself! Mine is not the intercooeld version, although I could easily stick one up there. I choose this rig because it fits into a cheaper tax and inspection class than the 1997 and up rigs. It only costs about $500 a year to put on the road, whereas 1998 and up are more like $1300.
What I have learned though, is that the automatic is without a doubt the way to go. My 5sp is ok. but the freakin flywheel is a major liability, suspect to come apart after 70k miles and spit grease all over the cluth no matter where you are. Costs $1300 just for parts. Been there did that and it sucks.
Otherwise it's a great rig. I do a lot of deer hunting here and the bag limits are crazy, one stag a day and all the does you can shoot. Since November I have bagged over 50 deer, whereas in my native Oregon I would have been lucky to even draw a tag.
I have stuck the toyota 4.55 gears in it with a e-locker front and rear. Muhahahaha!!!
They have e-lockers for the front here as well. The front is a easier retrofit than the rear, believe it or not.
While coming up an inclined long stretch in over two foot of snow I blew up what I thought was the Xcase, turns out to be the front diff, of which part I have no idea.
I'll crack it open soon and get the carnage up here, with pics of engine and my very unique rear bumper.
