Swapping 96-99 Center diff to 4th Gen Torsen Center Diff
1st post so go easy on me
Just wondering if it would be possible to swap my 96 part time center diff over to the 4th generation torsen center diff. I would like to do this because of the snow/ice/bare pavement conditions encountered in this part of the country, not so much this year yet ... weird weather.
I have figured out that the center diff changed to a longer diff with multi-mode (99-02), and requires the driveshafts to be shortened/lengthened ~3", see this link

which gives you the fulltime 4wd. Reading up on the 4th gen where the torsen center diff (VF4AM) was introduced

it mentions that the one of the new designs benefits is a shorter overall length of 50mm(~2"). Can the driveshafts absord a 1" difference in length?
I know there is some wiring to figure out since the shift lever is replaced with a rotary switch but this shouldn't be impossible. Maybe its possible to use the manual shifter without going to the fancy rotary switch.
The transfer case should bolt up to the transmission since they are both A340F.

you're going to encounter some problems here:
1. the 4th gen tc's are all electronic and not stick lever. this means that you'll have to play with a lot of the electronics to make it work.
2. i am certain the bolt pattern on the tc's are the same but if you're going this route why not get the 00-02 tc since it's almost the same?
