Surco size me

I'm lookin at gettin a surco rack, but I don't know if I want the 45x60 or 50x60. Surco's website recommends a 45x60, but I was just wantin some input from those who have one or had one. Was the 45x60 plenty big? Will the 50x60 look too big? I don't know what to do.

I'm also plannin on mounting a pair of hella 500's on the front and 550's on the back. Good choice for the lighting?? If not throw some better options at me.

I know this is a pretty common setup, just wantin to double check.

i love mine! got it for x-mas last year so im not positive on the size, but im pretty sure its the 45x60, if i remember i can measure for you (pm'ing me would help me remember!). i have seen a bigger than normal size on another vehicle, and it looked retarded!!! stuck a good foot of each side!

i have my daylighter pencil beams mounted up there, they are ok up there, throws a ton of light in the cab if you have the sunroof/cover open. i think the hella 500's will be fine.

im very happy with mine, ive loaded it up pretty good before, sadly no offroading stuff, usually stuff like moving from dorms and such.

if your into fabbing, i made my own out of 1"x1" square steel tubing - a flat platform rack for $40 in steel, cost $85 to powdercoat - and its stronger than anything you can buy. Just another option.

sean: my friend has some daylighters that came on his jeep and he said he didn't like em too much. Yeah I'm definately worried whether it'll stick out and look goofy. But at the same time I'm like that's just 2 & 1/2 inches on each side. lol

j-man: I would make some, but just don't have the time. Gotta study!

Junior college was a consideration, but I gotta party!! haha This is on my christmas list too because I'm always throwin stuff up there anyways w/ the factory rack, so it's gonna be real handy. I just don't think the 4 inch one will hold stuff in place as well as the 5. Just somethin to think about...

Here's mine:

I'm still trying to figure out how to make new brackets for the channels. The ones I got are WAY to high up there for me.

So do you guys have to really buy/make mounting tabs for the lights, or do they just drill in there fine? I have been contemplating putting some more Hella 500's on up top, even though I feel I have enough light on the front, I'd be stoked with more

no, i cant take any pics cuz i let my bro drive it to work and he drove it into the parking structure. so now the rack is beat up and the lights are broken. . but later on this week im going to install new lights and bend it into shape again. getting it ready for snowboard season.

anyways i used the same mounting brackets the surco has along with the same nuts to secure down the factory roof rack. dont worry it was on there securely. and i just screwed the lights right into the sides of the rack.

i think theres a pic of somebody using the same method i used to secure the rack.
