Supra MAF works with newer trucks
thought i would post that i got the Supra MAF to work perfectly on my '99 (which has the newer MAF filament). just to settle the debate, there IS a big difference is air flow between the newer stock MAF and Supra MAF . . . . i had to increase the fuel zero on the SMT5 by +5.
for my 99 4Runner, here are the wiring details:
there are 5 wires on the wiring harness. for simplicity, i'll refer to them going from the MAF to the ECU. you need to cut and re-wire the three middle wires. on mine, you connect:
1. the black/white stripe on the ECU side to the yellow/green stripe on the MAF side.
2. the red/white stripe on the ECU side to the black/white stripe on the MAF side.
3. the yellow/green stripe on the ECU side to the red/white stripe on the MAF side.
leave the White/blue stripe and the blue/black stripe outside wires alone.
obviously, you need to fit the MAF to an older airbox, or a cone style as the newer stock MAF housing is fixed to the airbox. you'll also need some sort of piggy back computer like the FTC or SMT to adjust for the increase in air flow.
i know that the wiring is different for a '99 tacoma . . . you still rewire the middle three wires, but the colors and order is different.

mass airflow sensor - the Supra MAF is less restrictive than the stock MAF (larger diamter, flows more air) so you get better response and higher power output with the S/C. i have no idea if it would make a difference with a N/A setup, but i imaging it would.
the SMT is similar to the AFC in that it intercepts the MAF signal to the ECU and modifies it, whether to inrease or decrease the ECU output to the fuel injector duty cycle. the SMT and FTC hasve more functions than the AFC, but are less user-friendly (a laptop is required).
