Supercharger install for a 4.7L Runner

Hey guys-

So I bought a TRD Blower off the net from TRD USA for $3995 and have it sitting here at my house. I called my dealership and they wanted almost $1000 to install it. I thought that was a little steep???! So, my question is...how difficult is the install, and what tools am I going to need? I wouldn't call myself a professional grease monkey, but I am pretty well versed with my nuts and bolts. I'm just curious if any of you have done this install either on a Tundra or Sequoia...or even a new 4-Runner for that matter. Any and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

your there first ive heard to have the supercharger. If you install it yourself bye bye bye on the warranty It doesnt sound to off since its a brand new generation but it does seem alittle high. Ask some other dealers around you!!

Is the 4.7 supercharger warranty different then the 3.4 supercharger?

On the 3.4 if you install it yourself it is covered under a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty. If it is dealer installed it is covered for the remainder of your vehicle drive train warranty.

The warranty on the vehicle is not affected no matter who installs it.

If you are in the DC area, I would be happy to give you a hand installing it.

I have not heard of anyone installing the SC for the 4.7 themselves either. I know its not impossible and has most certainly been done already, but like Brklyn said, you may lose the warranty.

Didn't that SC come with an additional injector?

Keep us posted. Hey how about a Dyno, what rear wheel HP do you think it would get on the Dyno?

Thanks,

Doug

even if he gets a year it not much compared to the rest of his drive train warranty. Just more piece of mind if i was you but I wouldnt want to get into it just on the off chance of messing something up. They screw up they pay to fix it, you screw up you pay. Thats how i look at it.

My friend works for Toyota as a technician. He said that it is NOT like the 3.4L install. He can install a 3.4 L Supercharger in about 3 hours. He had a 01 Tundra come in for a install and he said it took him almost 8 hours. From what I understand, he had to do a lot of cutting and replace a lot more things than the 3.4L. He said that it was pretty hard..

I am already thinking about one but have set a max of $ 3000 so it will be a couple of years yet.

Question is, who would you trust to do it ? Not the monkeys at my dealership.

I would trust the G man though

V8 S/C

I have seen 3 come through our shop here in Richardson, trust me pay someone else to do it. It takes a lot longer and there is a lot more involved on those.

Mr. Gadget-

I'll fly you out to montana and give you $400 cash for helping me with the install...sound like a plan?? You seem to be more respected than any dealership, especially according to our fellow yota brothers. Thanks for the input guys.

you may want to ask the shop foreman what the main issues are with installing this thing. There may be some fabrication or special tricks you have to do that are not in the manual. the last thing you want is to strip the aluminum or create a leak or mis-route a coolant line.

You should have a dealer install it and check other dealers in your area for a cheaper price.Another option is check a local performance shop if they can do te install. All the V8 S/C guys at www.tundrasolutions.com have had the dealer install it I heard it' a PITA. You should check out TundraSolutions.com and ask them about the install.

One question, where is Montana?

You would not have to pay me. I would do it free to help you out and to learn about that system.

At the least, I would be very interested in getting a complete copy of the installation manual. Could you hook me up?

It is to bad you are so far away.

Holy crap!!!! 1000 bones for the install. The dealer was giving me a price of $4300 out the door with install. They have done pretty much most of the installs in my area for Taco's and Tundra's.
