Suggestions for 3.0 "performance" mods?

I have $460. I need performance. Here's what I'm thinking

1) SMT-6 - to squeeze whatever I can out of the 3.0 - $300
2) G-Tech pro - to help tune it - $140
3) Ghetto FPIK-style filter - $40
Okay, so there's really no way to get great gains, I did just have a tune up done, new plugs, wires, all that nice stuff, I already have upgraded my exhaust and muffler. Nothing fancy but it's better than stock, I definitely noticed the difference. And yes, I notice I'm 20 dollars over budget  but I think I can find that somewhere.

Headers are muy expensivo. (very expensive for those who don't habla espanol) I already have exhaust + muffler so I'm good on that front.

I'd also suggest headers. I was going to mention that in my next PM to you, but this seemed like an appropriate place to do it. I'd also suggest manually advancing your initial timing to 12* BTDC and maybe givng the ECT mod a try as well before even thinking of spending the money on the SMT products. I think you'd see greater gains with those things on that engine.

Also, do the ISR Mod or Ghetto FIPK as you call it.

Peace!

Okay I like the looks of the ECT mod.... I think I will do that tomorrow (my first day off in a while) I don't suppose anyone might know exactly what colors my wires should be??? Also, you said something about it advancing the timing...does this mean I want to advance the timing 12* BTDC AND do the ECT mod, or just one?

Oh and if I should be looking at headers...the only ones I can find are Downey and NWOR...I believe I've read bad things about both...can anyone comment on either of these? Thanks!

Okay after reading more posts here and on 4x4wire, I have decided AGAINST headers. I think I really want to stick with stuff that is more "value priced," I don't want to put $300-400 in the 3.0 that I can't use on a different engine as well. Maybe I will stick with plug wires, ECT mod, and GFIPK for now.

You want to do all of the above:

Advancing Timing, ECT mod and GFIPK. All three of them together should be a very noticeable performance boost. Go here for some info on where your ECT Sensor is located and what color(s) the wire will most likely be.

Hope this helps and I do understand why you don't want to tackle headers on that engine.
