Stuck in Four Wheel drive
Hi Guys,
I have had my Toyota Hilux Surf SSRG 3.0TD 96 for several years now and try to do any jobs on her myself?
The problem I have now is with the 4WD lever
In bad weather I us the option of 4WD - 4H on the 4WD gear lever and the dash shows the steady green 4 wheels as per normal.
When I recently went to change it back to 2WD - 2H - the indicator on the Dash just continues to flash 4 green lights and central orange light
I have tried all the normal options of reversing, braking etc but it has been stuck like this for quite a while now.
I can return to 4WD mode with the steady green lights but cannot get out of this
Something is definitely happening as the steering becomes very sluggish when the Dash lights are flashing
I would really appreciate any help as to what to look for to put this right
Thanks everyone
Cara

Get the truck on stands - with all four wheels off the ground. I've had to do this in the past when mine simply would not disengage due to drivetrain binding. With luck it will release once the wheels are off the ground. If not, start the truck, place it in N, and then attempt to switch out of 4WD.

Hi Guys
Thanks for your replies
aowRS - I tried your suggestions - when the truck was raised the wheels were free moving but it did not release still
paxam - Sorry to here your were stuck in Neutral - what was the outcome of your problem ?
Any more suggestions or help would be great
Google has mentioned actuators and hoses ? - but I'm not sure where to look for these ?
Thanks again

the outcome was getting towed out of a canal and back home, after taking the 4wd lever out it was nasty and worn , I got a new one from Toyota and never had the issue again.. this was on my 85 SR5 not the 2002..
