Strawberry Milkshake-Replacement Radiator Follow Up

I'm thinking it's time to do the preventative maintenance of replacing my current radiator.

I am not adding an external cooler at this time and intend to use the integrated trans cooler. I have not had a problem with overheating with the standard set-up.

For those of you that have done this, either because of failure or maintenance, are you happy with your replacement radiator? Any install or fitment problems? Poor design? Customer service?

What brand and part number did you buy?
Where?

Thanks for your input. I'll sleep better at night without the radiator failure hanging over my head.

I changed the one in my 92 pickup a few months ago. I just used one from Advanced auto, I was in need of one after changing my Alt. It cracked at the lower hose connection. So far I'm happy, it cools...

Go with a Spectra Premium from Rock auto for $120.00. I just replaced mine end of June because I was going to take a 4000mile road trip. Fitment and quality was on par with the OEM radiator.

As far as adding a aftermarket or air core transmission cooler. If you live in a warm climate or do any towing you really should consider it. On my runner with the radiator tank cooler the discharge temp of my trans would never get below 170-175 even when it was locked up on the highway.

I bypassed the radiator tank and put in a aftermarket cooler and the discharge temp line (hottest/pre-cooler line) will never get over 175-180 and that's only if I floor it from a light. On the freeway it hangs around 130-140.

But either way the spectra premium is a very good quality aftermarket radiator. (even if you do or don't use the trans cooler tank in it )

I was leaning toward the Spectra. I went on Rock Auto and they didn't list a specific model and said it was subject to substitution with another manuf.

I'm planning on calling them in the morning.

Any other parts I need to order? I changed the hoses, thermostat and clamps 2 years ago.

I have no experience... but in my notes I see other folks have recommended KOYO radiators, may want to check them out.
