Stock 2000 Tacoma 4x4 Front End Won't Stay Aligned Loses Toe Adjustment Easily
I've searched everywhere, can't find an answer to this.
Here's the problem:
When I get the truck aligned it's fine in town and on the highway until I take if off road. I don't hit bumps hard, but driving normally over cattle guards, through potholes and over water bars will throw the toe out.
Truck is a stock 2000 Tacoma 4x4 TRD. 31" 10.5 BFG tires. No lift. Recent Bilstein 5100 shocks all around. Has Timbren load boosters (rubber donuts) in the back.
Front has an ARB bumper with a winch, so several hundred extra pounds on the front end.
No accidents, frame is good.
Last year I installed new upper and lower Toyota OEM ball joints.
The inner and outer tie rod ends are tight.
Tires just re-balanced.
I didn't have this alignment problem before the bumper / winch install and it's been aligned many times since then. When I get it aligned the toe is always out, causing the inner edges of the front tires to wear. Sometimes camber/caster is out, but usually it's just the toe.
I have a reputable shop do the alignments. On the last alignment they told me the coil springs are getting weak and that there is almost no room left for camber / caster adjustment. It's ok for now, but will need new coils soon according to them.
Any ideas? I've never had a truck lose toe so easily. I want to figure this out before I buy new tires.
Thanks.
