Steering rack movement and sound: Can you help me out?

hehe. it took us 5 pages to come to that conclusion, haha.
anyway, hopefully I'll be able to flip for a rack when I buy my clutch and flywheel in the coming weeks so I can just pull that whole thing and get it out of the way.

$83.50 for that set huh? Hmmm... I should just do it. I'm not getting it fixed by breaking Schuck's pieces...
(uh-oh... I'm finding it for cheaper! $72.12!)

I didn't want to spend the money to replace the rack end only to find the problem was bigger so I saved a bit by replacing the rack.

I was at NAPA this morning and found a puller similar to Daryl's that works great for pulling our tie rod ends.
I tried it on my rig this morning and popped the bolt end right out. Forget those damn universal pullers.
I know...I know...how much does it cost? Well they wouldn't give me my discount because it was too cheap. Can we say $13.69. WTF? Ya $13.69.

If it does go in at even a slight angle you put alot of stress on the tool and lose leverage too.

Well... my remanufactured rack has been on there for a few months now. Most of the play is gone and steering has tightened up a little with no leaks so far.
However, there's still a little play/dead spot in the middle.
I guess i'll get used to it. Unless i want to dish out aobut $700 for a new rack.
*sigh*
The bright side is, it only bothers me on highway drives.

I bought a used rack for ~120 bucks, hope to get it installed this weekend. I'm hoping it lasts for a while even though its used. I just didn't want to shell out ~250 bucks for a reman. one.
