I'm having difficulty removing my starter motor from my 95 pickup with a manual transmission.

I have removed the cables and the obvious bolt on the top, but does anyone know where the other bolt is hiding?

I'm feeling pretty stupid right now!

 

Did you look at the writeup in the tech section? I followed that one and one from 4x4wire.com when I did mine. They helped a lot.

 

I never did a 95 Toyota so I can`t help you there but one thing I can recommend is the Haynes Auto Repair book for your truck. Everytime I get a used/new auto I purchase the book pertaining to vehicle. It is very helpfull in situations like these, even has pics. Good luck.

 

try the "search" first, there is a great writeup out there that I used about 6 months ago. I believe the bolt that you are missing is on the rear of the starter, facing the rear of the car. I used a 20 inch extension on a ratchet to get it out. Its up there but kinda tricky to find...good luck.

 

Find the write up by jimrockford. Make sure you remove the right bolts. If they are obvious and easily accessible, they are not the right ones. Use a long extension and a u joint on your ratchet and it's not too bad. I did this a couple months ago too and it was fairly easy to follow the steps in the write up.

3.0 or 22re? If it's the 22re, get a fuel filter while you are at it. It will be the one time you put a fuel filter on it that will seem like it was almost fun to do. Having the starter off will be a huge bonus.

 

I have taken mine out 3 times on my 3.4l and it sucks, alot easier with a 2" BL

 

It sounds like you are missing the bottom bolt. The head faces forward. You can get at it by using a long extension and a universal joint. It's a long reach to it, but try to put you finger of one hand on it and guide the socket onto the bolt. All of this being done while lying on you back under the truck.

Also, when it's all loose and ready to come out, I recommend removing the small heat shield from the exhaust that you can see with the access panel removed. It makes removal and installation much easier.

I did mine a few weeks ago for the first time and it was a PITA.
