!!Speedy's Supercharger Thread!!

Midiwall (Mark) had a set of modified cams from Weasy2K, which he said he got some power from. How they were modified I don't know, I'm trying to find a thread about them.

I miss that guy...

Here's a thread I think: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/3...ce-cams-44491/

Suffice to say he left due to a disagreement with the management.
The site is worse off without him, his 5VZ is one of the most highly modified around, what with superchargers, cams, headers, W/MI, etc. etc.

I missed this one as well, i also think he was a great guy to have around although i have not been around much myself either.

Speedy-Et al..positive you are blowing boost out of the cylinder....
I am not talking about modified or reground cams--i am talking about:
1. Taking advantage of DOHC and dialing in Lobe seperation--basic tuning stuffs
2. For SC'ers dial in additional lobe serperation (like 114 degrees)
3. Finding the motor sweet spot and some chasis dyno time
I had a whole post but i keep timing out before i am done...
Basically, we would handle the mechanical side of the 3.4 because the electrical has pretty much been sorted out.
ERGO DIAL in the cams.....using a custom intake cam timing gear and then dealing with the scissors gear to adjust the exhaust side.....
Please, somebody tell me you know what i am talking about

... or a centrifugal supercharger and intercooler

So we machine an adjustable intake GEAR--just the gear--or alter another application.... Dial in timing for said motor set-up
You would get more than 15 hp I am pretty sure. OR reduce the pulley size and still get the same HP rating via increased lobe seperation......
What we need is basically a Cam Card.
Do you get what i am saying now??
#892
Forgot--remember the intake and exhaust lobes and center lines are not connected to one another. We could adjust them.....JUST THE GEARS WE ALREADY OWN
I think i am going to try and find me a motor.......--

More power to you, but I don't think you'll find a huge amount of horsepower ready for the taking...

WOW, took me long enough to read this whole thread.
After that I have some simple questions...
Is the SC really worth it? I mean I would love more power but honestly I dont want to have to be tuning this on a laptop constantly and constantly having issues etc etc... Do you really have to spend that much time fine tuning the PSI and the afr on maps or are you guys just really hardcore

The tuning takes a few days at first but then it is done and i have not had to touch mine since.

Do the math:
Stock Horsepower- 185hp
Supercharged with properly tuned URD upgrades- 320hp
That's a 135hp increase over stock Tuning is a necessary evil, but like Texas_Ace said it's usually just when you first install, and then you don't have to do it again (sometimes tweaking here and there will happen). I've had to mess with my tune a little bit after installing a new O2 sensor calibrating system and rebuilding the heads, but this is the first time I've touched the tune in probably a year.
Overall, it is some work and you definitely have to pay to play. Just thinking you would like a little more power isn't reason enough, you have to NEED more power

The thing is after reading this thread, you guys are all Engineers, and well, I would like to think i am a toyota enthusiast. I would need to get familiar with all this computer stuff. piggy back ecu's and all this nonsense... tuning is crazy
I know this has already been covered but its my understanding that the following are needed in order to have a successful supercharger experience
-TRD Supercharger kit(DUH)
-URD 7th injector kit
-Walbro 190 fuel pump
-LC-1 W afr gauge
-URD 5VZ-FE Pre Set AFR Calibrator II
-br3
-gauges to monitor.
-2.2 urd pulley
probably something else i have left out... i should be in bed
I want to just be able to tune 'er and leave it. well i know you all do too but. I like simplicity. I am not a minimalist but also do not feel the need to go insane
#898
That right there was enough to get me on your side.

This comes with the URD 7th injector kit.
Yup, for the AFR calibrator that will depend on what year 3rd gen but there are O2 sensor calibrators for either kind.
Yup. For the gauges to monitor, really all you absolutely need is the AFR gauge. Some optional extras would be Tranny Temp (for auto), oil pressure, EGT.
That about covers it. you'll need a dual gauge pod to hold your boost gauge and AFR sensor gauge, and you'll need a laptop to tune.

one way valve dealeo...so after doing my knock sensors and putting s/c back on I forgot if this valve is on correctly..did not seem to fit so I zipd n taped it for now.
Friend of mine whom went turbo on his 3.4 says its only used for the stock injectors/stock operation as it feeds air thru the mani-injector ports etc. so he plugged that as the s/c feeds enough air...
im not so sure bot that so here I am on YT to confirm. I believe it should be installed so air coming out of throttle body goes into mani but looks like I just need a new hose or cut it so it fits better.
*sorry 4 postin on ur thread..all the s/c folks are hear!

so whats the best way to fab up our exhaust...sorry if your thread already covered this.
I have DT headers..I heard w/S.C's we should run 2.5" in/out of muffler. One shop told me it should be 2.5 in and 2.25 out to keep pressure.
routing?
