I am going to check mine when i install my SC. I need to do the valve cover seals anyways. We will see what happens if they are in ot out of spec.
I am also considering upgrading mt valve spring to the ones from sea2sky tuning. I have read that the valve springs are just not cut out for an SC and can cause float even before the redline.
What do ya'll think?

I've done motors with shims before. Its not too bad, but being a V6 will make this one a PITA. I'll let you guys know if they were off.
You think toyota shims are a pain, try a Desmodromic valve shim system. At least the Desmo motors are only V2's instead of V6's....
I don't know about playing with the springs on the taco, mine runs like a champ with the SC. Not sure it is necessary to mod them. We aren't running that high of boost with the SC anyway and redline is only at 5500RPMs. Running a SC isn't going to make your motor rev higher. You're rev limiter will keep you below 5500RPMS therefore you springs should be designed to keep up with the motor boosted or not I would think.

You would notice a lost of power due to loss of compression if your valves were not closing completely when they were supposed to be closed.
having the spring not stiff enough to close the valve in the time it takes the rocker arm to leave the valve and come back around and start opening it again would cause them to float. This happens on very high reving motors. I doubt there is a chance of that on the 3.4L. 5500RPM is NOT a high rev limit and my truck runs solid all the way to redline.

I agree, I don't think it necessary for 5500RPM.

I wonder if the combustion could spread into the intake, might be scary for those running a 7th injector or spraying meth into the intake. You know how you always see those dragsters that explode halfway down the track.

Plus my truck shifts at 5500rpm at WOT, but the rev limter is something like 6200rpm.
But if everyone else is running fine with the stock springs even with 125k miles on them then i guess i will just stick with the stockers.

I bought a 1999 Honda Accord to commute in and it sees all the miles these days. Sure does make me appreciate the 4Runner when I do drive it though.

this is definitely a good read! you guys especially Speedy have done your homework! Just on a side note, I was wondering why none of you guys are using TRD 7th injectors or ecu/ecm as well....or should I say do they make them and are they any good? TRD smaller pulleys? Thanks for this post and your soon to be replies.

hows your blower speedy? I have 117,000 on mine now. no problems. running redline 75w90 diff oil in my nosecone. I've been pulling a 16ft toyhauler that weighs 5000lbs over big mountain passes lately. The truck is pretty maxed out, but it seems to be holding up very well. Too bad we can't get a small diesel trucks in the US.

Tuning to 11.8:1 in third gear would equate to about 12.5 - 13 in second. Maybe things just happen too fast in 1st and 2nd for the 7th injector controller to keep up as I've heard others say to expect that to occur.
I did get mine to stay right around 11.8 - 12.2 in 2nd, and settled on 11.5 - 11.6 in third as a compromise.
Still loving the vehicle and it's been problem free for over 2 years supercharged. I've got about 11,000 miles on the blower now as well. I don't drive everyday anymore, so it just sees weekend fun driving now.
I drive it so little, I've actually considered selling it, but I just love it too much to let it go. I think it only saw 3,000 miles last year.
I've bought a 2009 Dodge Challenger that I've been playing with now, so it's taking most of my "hobby" time these days.

Why did you take the motor out btw?
I'd also recommend the 7th injector with AFR Calibrator HIGHLY over the bigger injectors. There are three reasons for this recommendation....
1. The 7th injector sprays fuel through the supercharger cooling the intake charge. This is important on the TRD supercharger since it is NOT intercooled.
2. The 7th injector is MUCH simpler to tune.
3. The big issue is running at 14.7:1 in boost at part throttle. The AFR calibrator which is integrated into the 7th injector controller solves that problem by richening up the mix in closed loop keeping the motor happy.
