Spark plug question

Vehicle: '98 4-Runner 4-cyl.
Do I need to use the metal gasket that comes with the sparkplugs I bought?

Also the manual mentions a 16mm plug wrench/socket, do I really need to get this or will any plug socket generally work?

Thanks!

The metal gasket should come with the plugs.

Do not gap, take the plug out of the box, remove the cardboard over the electrode, put on anti seize and put in the engine just the way it is.

you can check the gap of the plugs..i can almost gurantee you that they are already the correct gap....i always check mine just in case..and i've never found one that was wrong..lol

Don't know about the 4 cyl engine but at least in the 5vz-fe engine, you only use dual grounded electrode spark plugs. I don't know if the 4 cyl has them or not. But now-a-days you rarely need to gap plugs. I can't remember the last time I gapped plugs.

You don't gap those. If you do, you ruin them. The distance between each of the grounds has to be precisely the same. If not, only one ground instead of two will work and you might as well put $2 platnium single gounded plugs in it.

i've tried about 10 different styles and brands of spark plugs...none seemed to be any better than the cheapo depo ones from oreiley's..so i use them..why spend a crap load on 4 name brand or whatever plugs...when u can spend just a few bucks on some cheap plugs that do the EXACT same thing...........

Use OEM plugs as they come out of the little box with some anti seize.

16mm is 0.629 and 5/8 is 0.625

Just an FYI--the only reason Yota used the twin ground electrode was because of the wasted spark ignition system--it fires the plugs twice as much--i.e...two electrodes.

I am running iridiums--i guess just because......
