Solid Axle In louisville Junkyard if anyone is looking.
Amen's Junkyard has a solid axle for a SAS. I didn't check the price or year of the truck but I did get a picture (waiting for it, I didn't take it, my friend took the picture with his camera. I'll post it in a couple of days if anyone is interested) and its and pick and pull, so it would have to pulled off by yourself. I know while I was in the office someone called in for an solid axle off a cherokee and the guy said 75$ so might be able to get the toyota axle cheap. Toy Truck looked closer to 86 but I'm not sure. Just figured I would post for those who are interested and looking for a decent axle for a SAS.

86 is ifs, there were no sfa trucks produced then. but if it was that body style, it was and 84-85, which are the srtongest and most gusseted. they also have the best brakes in the front, larger 11in discs. $75 for a complete 84-85 front axle is a real good deal.

I meant to say 86 or 88 jeep cherokee (I think) axle. But naw the truck looked like a 84-85, but like I said I can't be sure cause I didn't look.
All I was interested in was a brake cable from my handle to the thingamajig that pulls the e-brake cables in the rear axle. Can't seem to find it anywhere prolly gonna have to call the dealer. Got a K&N FIPK for my truck to play with... not gonna install unless i can come up with a box contraption to enclose it from the water.

i think downey has complete e-brake setups for pretty cheap, the dealer will rip you on everything, toyota parts arent cheap as you know. i may have the cable you need as i am getting the transfer case mounted brake shortly, if you are interested let me know, ill crawl down and take a look. sounds like you got a deal if you cound an fipk from it, good deal.

Yeah, I'm gonna price around right now, check a couple of other junk yards. Contact me when you get it done and if I haven't found a replacement I'll try to work something out with ya.
BTW FIPK was only 10$ Couldn't pass that up.

Old Jeeps like CJs and fullsize Wagoneers have right side diffs so they are slightly better candidates for axle donors. They present problems of their own like waggies being really wide and CJs being spring under axle, too narrow, and 5 lug wheel design. Some fullsize Chebbies have right side diffs and 6 lug wheels but they are too wide to be useful on mini trucks and Runners.
Just some food for thought. IMHO the only serious choice for SASing a '86-95 is a Toy 84-85 axle with Bobby Long inners and Longfield or Marfield joints.

heh, I didn't mean put a cherokee axle on a toy, I just meant thats what I heard a guy get a price for on the phone. Sorta to compare prices for what the guy would want for the axle since I didn't ask what he wanted for it.
sorry for the confusion...

You'd have to flip it over, weld on spring perches and figure out how to drain it with the drain plug on the top.

thats a 84-85 axle
that is a 84-85 axle for sure. not to sound like a knowitall but like joez said about the brakes is wrong they all have the same size brake rotors from 79-85 the only difference is the gusset. i got 85 rotors and hubs at a pull it yourself yard by my house and they were the same as my 82 toyota. they put new ones on rite before they junked it. krash i have the cable you need i got a 1990 regular cab truck i'm parting out. you should get the axle and convert your truck.

someone get the axle
some one needs to go get that axle. it's to far for me to drive. someone who lives a couple hours away should get it, it's worth the drive for that price. looks like from the picture that the body parts on the front are in good shape to. if they want $75 for the axle you could be able to get the grill and bumper for for $20 each.

I would do it but I still need to buy alot of stuff for my truck... though its still in the back of my mind to go get it. Still not positive how much they want for it.
Toyota parts dude: I just ordered the cable from jay marks toyota today. I would have gotten it from ya but mine is an extended cab and I ordered it before I looked at this thread.
