Smashed tailpipe. Possible solutions?
ok, well on a recent off roading adventure, i managed to smash my exhaust pipe on a rock. it broke the hanger and nearly sealed up the pipe. so my question is, how much louder will my truck be if i just end my exhaust right after the muffler? or do you think that maybe i should just get a downpipe underneath my bumper out of sight and out of the way of rocks?
any insight would be greatly appreciated

You shouldn't notice much sound difference, but it would be illegal. Your exhaust has to run to the outside of your vehicle. Take it to a muffler shop and the will fix it for probably under $30

when i first read the name of this thread i thought" I know how to fix that, shove a big stick in the end of the pipe and pry it open." LOL well thats what i did when i smashed mine anyways like cubuff4runner
said just take it to an exhaust shop and have them fix it, it shouldnt cost very much

I cut my exhaust right where it bends down, just before it pokes out from under the body. I cut it flush with the body lines. No sound difference. It definately looks cleaner and I don't have to worry about it catching on anything. But Kali(Kommunist Kalifornia), is a different deal. The CARB doesn't let you do anything to your vehicle. I would get a new section of pipe with pipe clamps instead of a fresh weld. When you go offroading unclamp the extension. Best of both worlds. I was planning on doing this but like the look of no exhaust pipes.

Until you feel like paying to have it fixed, I would take a cut-off wheel and snip it just past the bend area.
When you do get it fixed...get the piping re-routed so it doesn't happen again. I am in a similar situation. If you're going to have a shop work on it, get it setup so it won't happen again.
