Slight Brake Noise
I usually hang out on the 86-95 4Runner forum as my '91 tends to need a little more attention, but I have a question about my wife's '97 4Runner-- I changed the brake pads 1500 mi ago, and also had the rotors turned as well. The mechanics of the brakess ( seem to be working great, but she has developed a light *TICK*, or a *TING* (hope you're "hearing" this!) sound whenever the brakes are applied. It's only slight and can barely be heard with the windows up, but it carries my wife and two young sons everywhere, so if you got any ideas, I would love to hear them-- Thanks

It is probably the material the brakes are made of. I had an F150 and always used HD pads and it always squeeled.
If you want take them off and spray the backs with disc brake quiet or the equivilent. It should stop any noises related to the pad.

I don't think it would cause any concern other than the noice especially when you back up and go forward.
If you did not replace with a quality brake pads (OEM?) this could the the cause.

Well, I didn't use toyota pads, but I did buy the high-end OEM pads from Advance Auto. Maybe I should've listened to everyone on here when they said to buy toyota pads... I guess I can go back in and just recheck all my nuts and bolts for proper torque. Thanks

I've never heard anyone's braking making a "ting" sound. Definately something you should look into, since your wife and kids' safety might be of concern here.
